Benefiting Charities

Proceeds from our annual Down & Derby event help to support several local charities including L.E.A.D.E.R., Baldridge Lodge, CASA of Forsyth County, Family Promise, Jessie’s House and B.A.D.G.E.

L.E.A.D.E.R. is an organization founded by volunteers in August 2000. The purpose of our intervention was to reduce the incidence of children being killed on our roads directly related to inadequate driver training. On today’s roads, we lose more children 14 to 24 years of age to automobile accidents than any other cause. This is a major health issue for our young people. L.E.A.D.E.R is partnered with the Forsyth County Board of Education to provide an integrated program of classroom training and interactive simulation training. Additional hours of road experience are offered through registered local driving schools or by parents downloading a program through the Department of Driver Services. A Certificate of Driver Education and high school Carnegie credits can be obtained for those children who successfully complete the program. State Farm Insurance is now offering a 10% discount if a students successfully completes this course through Forsyth County Schools.

The Bald Ridge Lodge is a nurturing, home like stabilization facility where young men learn the skills they need to be successful in life. The boys who come and stay at The Lodge leave with the knowledge and confidence they need to excel in life. To learn more visit our baldridgelodge.org.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) programs provide an innovative approach to a very urgent crisis. CASA programs screen, train and support volunteers to provide individualized advocacy for children in the juvenile court system through no fault of their own. The CASA volunteer provides an independent source of information for the judge who must decide their future.

Mentor Me North Georgia, Inc. is a non profit organization dedicated to better serving the diverse needs of youth in the community, particularly children ages 6 17. Since 2002 we have been connecting mentors to children in need and improving their self image, life choices and opportunities. Children and youth can be matched with mentors either One on One in our REACH program, or teen Kick it Up clubs.

Family Promise recognizes that poverty is a multifaceted problem that requires a multifaceted response. We respond by integrating educational outreach, smart programming, effective policies, and the hands on work of thousands of volunteers. We provide food, shelter, and support services for homeless families. We provide advice and advocacy for at risk families to prevent their becoming homeless. And we educate people about poverty and the means to combat it.

Jesse’s House Inc., originally known as the Forsyth County Youth Shelter, was founded in 1998 as a result of a 1996 needs assessment survey for the north Georgia region conducted by Kennesaw State University. The survey identified that there was a need in Forsyth County for an emergency shelter for at risk girls, ages 7 17. We currently serve girls up to age 21 who are still in DFCS care.

The mission of BADGE is to give back to employees of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office that serve and protect us. To restore confidence, hope and peace of mind through financial and other support when unforeseen or unwelcome circumstances enter their lives. Through our endowment, fundraising events, public relations, corporate sponsors, and board expertise, BADGE provides immediate and ongoing support to FCSO employees.
